Wānaka turned on quintessential show day weather as Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Waitaki MP Miles Anderson joined crowds for the opening day of the Wānaka A&P Show on Friday.
“It was a pleasure to have the Prime Minister with us to celebrate the rural community and show his support for the Upper Clutha’s agricultural sector,” said Keith Cooper, Board Chair of the Upper Clutha A&P Society.
During his visit, Mr Luxon took in key areas of the show, including the Rural Village, which highlights traditional Kiwi farming practices, and the newly introduced Agri Exchange, an innovation hub designed to bring farmers and future-thinkers together. He also spent time with the local fire brigade, women’s health bus and presented the prestigious President’s Trophy to the Young family in recognition of their nearly 30 years of service to the A&P Show across generations. The Prime Minister officially opened the show before visiting the wool pavilion and sheep yards, mainstays of the A&P Show.
Now in its 88th year, the Wānaka A&P Show remains one of New Zealand’s leading agricultural events, showcasing rural life, innovation, and the strength of the community.
