A highlight on the local calendar for more than 85 years, the Wānaka A&P Show is a contemporary version of a much-loved, long-standing Kiwi tradition of celebrating the agricultural and pastoral industry. It’s where top equestrian riders compete, and leading NZ farmers display animals, where young and old enter arts and crafts, and where people of all ages enjoy free entertainment and shop from 500 trade stalls. It is one of the largest A&P Shows in New Zealand, attracting around 40,000 people annually. Whatever you come for, the Show is sure to leave a lasting impression.
The Wānaka A&P Show is governed by the Upper Clutha A&P Society, an organisation that can trace its roots back to 1895. The first Show was held at the Cromwell Racecourse in 1896. In 1934, the Show moved to Wānaka and has been held at the picturesque Wānaka Showgrounds ever since.
Over the years, the Wānaka A&P Show has evolved into a large-scale event attended by visitors from around the district and the country. The driving force behind the Show is the community. Community members make up the Board of the Upper Clutha A&P Society, the Management Team and the Committees, who invest huge amounts of hard work and passion to deliver a highly anticipated event every year.
